Central Air Conditioners

We just bought our home last fall so we haven’t used the central air yet, its starting to warm up and since we’ve never lived anywhere with central air we don’t know if its supposed to be serviced before hand like regular a regular A/C. I know we have to change out the filters in the house, but does anything to the conditioner have to be done before we can turn it on?

I have power to the unit and when switched on, it just hums. Is it the Fan Motor and is that something i would be able to fix myself? If not, does anyone know a good, CHEAP, technician around the Claremore, OK area? Or someone who would work with me by payments?

This is strange. Everything turns on when I use the thermostat (luxpro programable) to set cool auto or on. The problem is, it does not turn off. When I use the switch on the thermostat to the off position, the fan in the house turns off, but the fan from the outside does not. It continues to run coolant thru. I have to go to the furnance and turn off the main power switch. Any ideas? is it a thermostat issue, or did a wire corrode and pop loose.

Some people told me to put it on certain temperature and don’t turn it on and off. Now, I only turn it on when it’s hot and turn it off when it gets cool. My friends told me I’m using more electricity by doing it…..

The fuses are fine but it wont even circulate the air when you manually turn on the fan from the thermostat. what could be wrong please help. thanks!

I checked the breakers, thermostat is on a/c etc, now it has been suggested that the main disconnect might be switched off, where would I find that?

We are looking to replace out 30yr old central air conditioner. We live in a 2 story house, about 2400 sq ft. We are going for a 4 ton system. I have been quoted TRane and Goodman. What the the best brands for the money..???

Can a small scale wind generator power enough batteries to power a 5 ton air conditioner? And if it can, how large of a battery bank would I need, and would a 220 power converter be good enough.

Does it include cleaning the ducts and coils?

The filter I got is re-usable.

Do I need to wait until it dries COMPLETELY before putting it back in?

As low as it can go- on auto fan – cool – then leave house for two or three days?

hi can any one help me my central air conditioning is not working to good it seems to only blow out very little cold are… we have changed the air filter so thats not the problem…. every thing seems to sound and look like it’s working ok but we can not figuer out what the problem could be if any one can help me please do i’m in tx… and well the heat is a killer..lol thank you all…

When I tryed to turn on my Air Conditioner today it wont turn on, what could be the problem, it worked fine yesterday?

The fan runs and everything. The compressor isn’t kicking on though. I didn’t know if the compressor was bad or the capacitor?

Is this normal? Sometimes it comes on and runs for 20 seconds and turns off only to start again in a minute or two. It’s not that hot out at night. Never noticed it doing that before.
How do you alter the thermostat?
The brand is Honeywell RTH110B.

It is set at a constant 80 degrees.

I live in Niagara Falls, we are going to be getting an early hot spell and I want to be ready.
Plus it get humid up here during the summer.
Could that be the reason?

Air Conditioner is not cooling now.

Hi I am moving in to a new home next year and want to get a price on central air. Everyone wants to send someone to the house to give me a price but it is not ready untell next summer. The people making the house said thay would put it in for 00. The house is 3300 square foot. Is this a deal or should i hold off.

I have a central air conditioner that trips the circuit breaker when it is turned on or about 30 minutes in use.

do i plug the other hole next to my drain hole in my central air conditioner?
